Surface Impedance of High TC Superconductors

Abstract

I discuss the various experiments which give information on the surface impedance Zs = Rs + jXs of high temperature superconductors. The surface reactance Xs is related to the penetration depth and Xs(T) is suggestive for singlet pairing. The surface resistance Rs is determined by the ac losses due to imperfections and due to thermally excited carriers, and experiments on high quality YBa(2)Cu(3)O(7) fims indicate a superconducting gap which exceeds the BCS weak coupling limit. The various high frequency device applications are also briefly discussed.
