Materials research in the Chicago MRL involves close collaborations between theorists and experimentalists from different disciplines and emphasizes the following areas: THRUST I: SURFACE DYNAMICS: Adparticle Dynamics and Surface Reactivity, Surface Phonon Spectroscopy and Gas-Surface Interactions, Seed Area: Structure and Dynamics of Complex Molecular Films, THRUST II: DISORDERED MATERIALS: Lower Dimensional Disorder: Mesoscopic and Layered Materials, Glassiness and Glassy Dynamics, Order-Disorder and Structure, THRUST III: DYNAMICAL PATTERNS AND SOLIDIFICATION: Dynamical Patterns, Dynamics of Solidification, Seed Area: Convective Turbulence.
