New Non-Linear Optical Polymers

Abstract

New polyurethanes were prepared which exhibit non-linear optical activity. The polymers were poled during synthesis, advantage being taken of the fast polymerization kinetics. Second harmonic generation (SHG) was observed from these polymers. In selected cases, no decrease in the SHF signal (due to depolarization) was observed at room temperature for up to one month. The SHG activity of a series of organic model compounds was also investigated. Keywords: Optical polymers; Polyurethanes; Harmonic generation.
