A Survey of Ship Motion Reduction Devices

Abstract

This report surveys motion reduction devices in an attempt to provide information for trade off analysis. Popular motion reduction devices are discussed with descriptions, advantages, disadvantages, and prediction methods given for each one. Detailed explanations and theoretical derivations are given to references. A method for expressing stabilizer effectiveness relative to a criteria limit is proposed. Guidelines for selecting a motion stabilizer are given. (JHD)
