SWANEA (Southwest Asia-Northeast Africa): A Climatological Study. Volume 1. The Horn of Africa

Abstract

This is the first in a five-volume series that describes the climatology of Southwest Asia and Northeast Africa, (SWANEA) Volume I describes a subregion of SWANEA known as 'the Horn of Africa' an area that, for this study, this area has been divided into four subregions of 'climatic commonality. ' After describing the general geography of the Horn of Africa, the report discusses major meteorological features, including semipermanent climatic controls, synoptic disturbances, and mesoscale and local features. The four 'seasons' in each of the Horn's four climatically similar subregions in detail. Keywords: Climatology/meteorological data; Weather/ceiling; Meteorological phenomena; Visibility/wind; Wind direction; Cloud cover; Atmospheric precipitation; Atmospheric temperature; Seasonal variations; Barometric pressure; Troughs/monsoons; Air flow/patterns; East/North Africa.
