The Integration of the Air Force Content Data Model and MIL-STD-1388-2B

Abstract

The Air Force is developing a specification for managing technical information concerned with weapon system maintenance and operation. Their aim is to ensure that this technical maintenance information is up-to-date, accurate, readily accessible, and in easy -to-use digital form. The Army is lead service in implementing the MIL-STD-1388 standard. The implementation of this standard will provide an integrated data base consisting of source data upon which technical maintenance information is based and supported. The benefits of intergrating these two closely related data bases are considerable. This report first evaluates these two independently developed data bases and then proposes an integration strategy.
