Improved Fits for the Vibrational and Rotational Constants of Many States of Nitrogen and Oxygen

Abstract

All pertinent published measurements of the vibrational intervals and rotational constants for 17 states of nitrogen, the ground state of O2, have been assembled and plotted against v. (These are the states important in modeling the fluorescence produced when air is bombarded by fast electrons.) In about 70% of the states considered these tabulated coefficients do not give optimum fits of the basic spectroscopic data, usually because of new data published since 1979. In these cases new improved coefficients have been derived by least-squares fitting. The results are tabulated and plotted.
