A Functional Description of the Geophysical Data Acquisition System
Abstract
The Geophysical Data Acquisition System, GDAS, is a modified and updated version of the Standalone Data Acquisition, SDAS, (Von Glahn, 1980). This report parallels Von Glahn's taking freely from it and maintaining its format while emphasizing the changes, modifications, and updates during the decade. Functional descriptions of the subsystem are expanded where needed and full descriptions of the peripheral interfaces including figures depicting jumper configuration for operation within the GDAS, have been added. The purpose of the GDAS has remained the same, that is, a portable computer controlled data acquisition system, with new emphasis on portability and environmental operational. Modifications to the frontend analog section, which underwent a total change, include the flexibility of a remote preamplifier system, and a current mode calibration system. The use of various geophysical sensors was also considered in this redesign. The software section of this report presents a brief description of the Computer Aided Design and calibration programs. Keywords: Seismic data; Seismic instrumentation; Seismometers/transducers; Junction boxes/interfaces.
