Effective Strategies for Management of Department of the Army Research and Development in Advanced Ceramic Materials

Abstract

This paper investigates some of the key issues involved in managing the diverse program of research conducted by the Department of the Army in advanced ceramic materials. This study focuses on the attitudes and opinions of active researchers in three different organizational environments and attempts to correlate the differences between these groups. A mail questionnaire is used to solicit data from the groups. The goal is to test the effectiveness of current strategies, as the respondents perceive them, within and between the three groups. Significant results are obtained regarding researcher productivity, research equipment needs, and funding support. Important analogies are drawn regarding researcher productivity and efficiency of research efforts.
