Probing of Membrane's Surface by Dynamic Measurements of Proton Diffusion

Abstract

The reaction was followed within a 20 ns time window, and analyzed by numerical integration of the Debye-Smoluchowski operator using a stochastic formalism. By means of this analysis we determine the diffusion coefficient of the proton, the effective dielectric constant and the steric hindrance for proton approach due to the anion's adsorption to the membrane. We have demonstrated that porton diffusion studies can be a tool for evaluating physical properties of microscopic and macroscopic aqueous systems. (js)
