Cluster Calculation of CuO2 in High-Tc Superconductors

Abstract

The eigenvalues of a small cluster in the CuO2 plane are obtained by exactly diagonalizing the extended Hubbard Hamiltonian. The eigenenergy spectrum is used for the grand partition function. The magnetic and thermodynamic quantities such as the magnetic susceptibility and specific heat are calculated with different occupation numbers and discussed in terms of the excited states of the system.
