Two-Dimensional Beach Profile Response Model

Abstract

A two-dimensional numerical beach profile response model has been developed. It is based upon the principal of conservation of mass and an energetics-based cross-shore sediment transport rate equation. The model requires minimum input, yet it simulates both onshore and offshore sediment transport for time scales ranging from hours to months. Model predictions compare favorably to the measured erosion on a natural beach due to storm waves. The model was designed to operate quickly on a personal computer.
