Tropical Cyclone Track Objective Aids for the Microcomputer: PCLM, XTRP, PCHP

Abstract

A Climatology Objective Aid for the microcomputer has been developed which includes a forecast based on climatology (PCLM), a persistence forecast (XTRP), and a half persistence and climatology forecast (PCHP). The climatology is 1945-89 data from the western North Pacific, eastern North Pacific, South Pacific and Indian Oceans. The objectives aid has a graphical presentation of the climatological tracks used in the forecast. Results from homogeneous comparisons of forecast errors from the first 18 storms in the western North Pacific during 1989 show that PCLM functions adequately.
