Thermal Transport Studies of Optical Coatings, Interfaces and Surfaces by Thermal Diffusion-Wave Interferometry
Abstract
Thermal diffusion-wave interferometry can produce a wealth of thermal transport information on a single sample. Onset of three-dimensional heat flow, contributions due to thermal contact resistance, evidence of transit time effects, and the presence of unanticipated stratified layers are some of the phenomena that may be seen. The natural consequence of the observed sensitivity to the detailed transport physics is that great care must be taken when interpreting the data. However, the revealed detail ensures that essential effects are not overlooked.
