The Transient Development of Vortices Over a Delta Wing

Abstract

The most interesting finding was that for large angles of attack, a delta wing actually sheds vortices alternately, just like bluff bodies do. Also, at high sweep angles, vortex shedding is suddenly initiated at an angle of attack of 37 degrees. In addition, it was found, it was found that a seven-hole probe as small in diameter as 2% of the diameter of the vortex can actually precipitate breakdown, but with little effect on the static pressure on the wing suction surface.
