Mathematical Techniques for the Performance Oriented Design (POD) Tool

Abstract

Mathematical techniques for the NOSC Performance Oriented Design (POD) tool are described using Response Time, Throughput, and Utilization techniques for computer systems. Queueing Networks that represent computer systems are analyzed using Mean Value Analysis (MVA) with performance measures such as Response Time, Throughput, Queue Length, and Device Utilization. Simple algorithms for solving basic queueing systems are included such as the POD algorithms for a Mixed Model System. Modeling Synchronization in ADA based systems is explained using the Rendezvous Analysis technique. The document concludes with an explanation of the basic Distributed Mean Value Analysis (DMVA) algorithm.
