International Conference on Mechanical Fatigue of Advanced Materials Held in Santa Barbara, California on 13-18 January 1991

Abstract

This document provides a description and technical summary of the International Engineering Foundation Conference on Mechanical Fatigue of Advanced Materials, 13-18 January 1991. It provides a current assessment of the pertinent issues with respect to general microstructural and compositional design strategies, evaluation of mechanical properties, characterization of damage, failure and crack-tip shielding modes, and (potential) life-prediction procedures for metal matrix composites, intermetallics and intermetallic matrix composites, and ceramics and ceramic matrix composites. In addition, there is some discussion of future trends in advanced materials, covering both the optimization of both microstructure and composite architecture.
