Report of Study on Airlines' Anticipated Near Future Cockpit Control and Display Capabilities and Plans for Data Link Communication

Abstract

This report reviews the findings of a study conducted by CTA incorporated for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Technical Center, Airborne Data Link Program. For each of seven airlines, the following was studied for their anticipated near future fleets: the quantity of each aircraft model; the cockpit control and display devices that would be onboard each aircraft model; which of those devices would be the primary Data Link display, and what form of annunication would be used. These data were then compiled to determine the total studied fleet's capabilities, as well as their plans, for displaying Data Link information.
