A Look at Digital Nose Wheel Steering

Abstract

This report examines the impact of digital control on nose wheel steering of aircraft. The development of steering systems is reviewed from early mechanical systems through integrated brake control systems. The value of digital control is then examined based on unique capabilities, performance improvement, and fault detection. Cost, weight, and maintainability impacts are discussed.
