Enhanced Preliminary Assessment Report: Presidio of San Francisco Military Reservation, San Francisco, California
Abstract
An enhanced preliminary assessment was conducted at Presidio Military Reservation, located in San Francisco, California. The objectives of the enhanced preliminary assessment include: identifying and characterizing all environmentally significant operations with respect to known or suspected releases of contaminants to the environment, identifying areas of chemical/fuel/ radioactive contamination that may require immediate action, identifying those areas which may require additional investigation, identifying other actions necessary to address and resolve all identified environmental problems, and identifying other environmental concerns that may present impediments to the expeditious transfer of this property. Based on currently available information, Presidio does not present any imminent or substantial threat to human health or the environment. However, additional environmental investigations are recommended to fully characterize the environmental impact from on-site landfills and underground storage tanks. Remedial actions to address contamination of soils, ground water and surface water caused by leakage and migration of radioactive materials, pesticides and other toxic hazard are also necessary.
