Results of the Aeronautical Systems Division Critical Process Team on Integrated Product Development

Abstract

This report provides a vision of the Integrated Product Development (IPD) Process as it could be implemented within the Aeronautical Systems Division (ASD). It captures the results of the ASD Critical Process Team on IPD and recent efforts to refine guidance for its implementation. The primary purpose of this document is to provide a conceptual framework to provoke dialogue that will lead to incremental improvements in the acquisition process. IPD is an efficient process of bringing a product from user's needs to field operation. The basic principle is to iterate and integrate the design of a product and the design of its manufacturing, operation, support and training processes with specific focus on achieving low-cost development, production, operations and support within the shortest schedule while achieving robust quality of products and services.
