Overview of Management Theory

Abstract

Basic management theory, principles, and application concepts are applied daily by military officers, civilian supervisors, and other leaders to achieve organizational goals and personal objectives. Such theory provides us with a solid framework for working successfully with people. It enables us to use effectively many systematic processes and motivation aspects of organizational structure and functions. Most important, the theory orients command leadership for the enormous task of managing organizations in our environment fraught with volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA). This study provides an overview of current management theories and offers some thoughts about the future.
