Environmental Measurements in the Beaufort Sea, Spring 1990

Abstract

This report presents environmental and ambient noise data obtained at APLIS 90, an ice camp established in the Beaufort Sea in spring 1990 to support Navy-sponsored tests and research during ICEX 1-90. The purpose of this report is to provide field data to ice camp participants; thus data analysis is limited. The data were collected to document the meteorological and oceanographic conditions that existed during camp activities, and to furnish insight into the underwater sound-speed structure and ambient noise during camp activities, and to furnish insight into the underwater sound-speed structure and ambient noise during acoustic experiments. The main data sets are weather, floe drift, CTD (Conductivity Temperature Depth) profiles, ice properties, and ambient noise.
