Severe Weather Guide Mediterranean Ports - 32. Taranto

Abstract

This handbook for the port of Taranto, one in a series of severe weather guides for Mediterranean ports, provides decision-making guidance for ship captains whose vessels are threatened by actual or forecast strong winds, high seas, restricted visibility or thunderstorms in the port vicinity. Causes and effects of such hazardous conditions are discussed. Precautionary or evasive actions are suggested for various vessel situations. The handbook is organized in four sections for ready reference: general guidance on handbook content and use; a quick-look captain's summary; a more detailed review of general information on environmental conditions; and an appendix that provides oceanographic information.
