Data Acquisition System for Collecting Biophysical and Physiological Data

Abstract

The Biophysics and Biomedical Modeling Division general purpose data acquisition system (AC128) is designed to sample up to 128 channels of input data, using an IBM-AT compatible personal computer (PC). The most recent set of sampled data are displayed in real time on the PC monitor. All data are also temporarily stored in the PC memory. Options to save the collected data onto other more permanent storage devices are provided. In this report the term AC128 represents the entire data acquisition system, comprising both the hardware and the software. The software portion alone will be referred to as the SoS. The AC128 SoS does not replace the PC Disk Operating System (DOS). The SoS runs within the PC DOS and calls many DOS provided functions. The primary types of input supported include thermocouples, thermistors, and voltages. All standard thermocouple types (T, E, J, K, B, R, S) are allowed. Thermistors which subscribe to the Steinhart-Hart conversion equation are supported.
