A Model for a Level II Emergency Room

Abstract

Discusses the physical requirements for an emergency room which meets the JCAHO definition of a Level II Emergency Room. The planning process is addressed by looking at the needs of the facility and the requirements placed by the medical community and governing agency. The needs of the facility are presented through a review of the literature, consultation with the in house personnel, and visits to other hospitals. Consultation with engineers and architects was also included in the paper. Workload statistics are utilized to generate room and space requirements.
