Problems in Nonlinear Continuum Dynamics

Abstract

Slemrod's research in 1990-1991 centered on two issue: (1) the kinetics of coagulation processes, (2) behavior of discrete velocity models in the kinetic theory of gases. In the first area Slemrod has (a) given a new method for solving the special class of coagulation equations which exhibit gelatin and (b) derived and proved existences of similarity solutions for coagulation equations with diffusion. In the second area Slemrod has used his 'relaxed invariance principle' method to prove weak decay to equilibrium for the Broadwell model of gas dynamics in the case of specularly reflective boundary conditions.
