'Mixed' Metallic-Ionic Clusters of the Silver/Silver Iodide

Abstract

We have sputtered isotopicall enriched silver foil (107) Ag in the source of a double-focusing mass spectrometer (reverse geometry) in the presence of methyl iodide vapor. We have detected the formation of a series of iodinated positively and negatively charged silver clusters of formula (AgXIY)k along with the purely metallic charged clusters.
