A Study to Develop and Apply a Model for Determining the True Costs of Performing a Specific Clinical Procedure at Naval Hospital Great Lakes

Abstract

A total cost model for DRG 225 (feet and foot procedures) was constructed to validate the private practice aspect of the Groton Plan. The Groton Plan is a provider productivity initiative developed by the former commanding officer of naval hospital, Groton and supported by the Surgeon General of the Navy. The desired outcome of this graduate research project was a model that provided the total cost of performing a specific clinical procedure and utilized existing cost collection systems. The resultant prototype demonstrated that a model of this nature could be constructed.
