Reactions of Hydrogen Atoms Important to the Decomposition of Energetic Materials

Abstract

A new technique for characterizing the velocity distributions of state-selected reaction products was developed for analyzing the reactions of hydrogen atoms: the three dimensional velocity distribution of product fragments is determined by ionizing the appropriate species, waiting for a delay while the species separate along their trajectories, and then projecting the spatial distribution of ions onto a two-dimensional screen. The objectives of this work were to develop the new technique and, eventually, to apply it to use it in order to characterize the reactions of hydrogen atoms with NO2, CH3HNO2, and H2NNO2.
