Robust Image Understanding: Techniques and Applications

Abstract

The research on the contract dealt with image understanding applications to both navigation and recognition. Thirteen technical reports were issued on the contract during this period referred to by numbers in brackets in the remainder of the report. Research of navigation was concerned with the following specific topics which are issued in further detail in this report: (a) analysis of superimposed moving patterns; (b) path and motion planning; (c) structure from motion; (d) motion uncertainty; (e) motion illusions; and (f) motion recovery in the presence of discontinuities. Recognition research was concerned with: (g) recognition of compact shapes by energy function minimization; (h) learning of invariant shape properties; (i) slant-insensitive shape descriptors; and (j) edge detection and line fitting.
