Suicide Inhibitors of Reverse Transcriptase in the Therapy of AIDS and Other Retroviruses

Abstract

Groups of compounds were synthesized as potential suicide inhibitors of viral polymerases, Test results from compounds submitted to the U.S. Army antiviral screening program have been received and are summarized below. full details of active compounds are given in the Appendix to this report. Of the 40 compounds tested to date, significant antiviral activity against one or more of the 11 test viruses have been observed for a surprisingly high proportion. 16 compounds in all have shown some antiviral activity. Several of thes have low cytotoxicity and small animal test are planned in collaboration with the Army antiviral screening program if the current (residual) funding proves sufficient.
