Helmet-Mounted Display/Sight Tactical Utility Study.

Abstract

This report documents an evaluation of a current tactical helmet- mounted sight and display (HMS/D) in air-to-air combat. The HMS/D was evaluated in several simulated mutual support scenarios by operational F-15 pilots in simulator domes. Qualitative and quantitative results are described within this report as well as details of the HMS/D integration and functionality. Visually coupled system, have been advocated for use in high performance fighters. Helmet mounted sight/displays (HMS/D) are considered a prime method for enhancing pilot capabilities, especially in acquiring and maintaining situation awareness, and the large off-boresight capability promises to provide improved combat effectiveness.
