Interdisciplinary Conference on Electrified Interfaces Held in Asilomar, California on September 16-21, 1990

Abstract

A meeting was held in Asilomar, Monterey, California, September 16- 20, 1990. It brought together a group of scientists interested in theoretical and experimental problems related to nontraditional methods in interfacial electrochemistry, from both fundamental and applied points of view. The past decade has seen a renaissance in the field of interfacial electrochemistry. There are least three reasons for this growth in interest. Firstly, there has been a general recognition of the importance of interfacial science, resulting in part from the development of thin film technologies and the resultant heightened awareness of corrosion problems. Secondly, there have been theoretical advances which give promise of insights and predictions. Thirdly, there is the development of new techniques capable of probing the interface on a molecular level. In the near future, these may be able to provide experimental tests of the new theoretical insights.
