Hydrogen Test of a Small, Low Specific Speed Centrifugal Pump Stage

Abstract

A small, low specific speed (430 RPM*GPM**0.5/FT**0.75) centrifugal pump stage with a 2 inch tip diameter, 0.030 inch tip width shrouded impeller and volute collector was tested with liquid hydrogen as the pumped fluid. The hydrodynamic design of the pump stage is summarized and the noncavitating and cavitating performance results are presented. Test speeds were 60% and 80% of the 77,000 RPM design speed. Liquid hydrogen test results are compared with data from previous tests of the stage in water.
