Abstract
The U.S. Army Defense Ammunition Center and School USADACS. Evaluation Division (SMCAC-DEV), was tasked to test the Ammunition Peculiar Equipment 1974E002 Continuity Kit For M76 Grenade to MIL-STD-398. Military Standard Shields, Operational for Ammunition Operations, Criteria for Design of and Tests for Acceptance. The APE 1974E002 was tested in accordance with the test plan which defines the Maximum Credible Incident (MCI) expected when the Grenade, Launcher, Smoke, IR Screening, M76 is functioned in the APE 1974E002. Functioning of this device is for test purposes only and not part of normal operations for continuity testing the grenade. Thermal flux or blast overpressure amplitudes were too low to record. It is recommended that this configuration of the APE 1974E002 be approved for field use when testing the M76 grenade. If items with larger amounts of explosive in the powder train are to be tested in the APE 1974E002, the fixture must be tested to that level of explosive, plus the 25 percent overload.
