Acoustic Simulation for Acoustics Education

Abstract

The purpose of this grant was to purchase hardware and software for computer simulation of sound transmission through the ocean. The system is to be used for class demonstrations and laboratory problem sessions in support of courses in ocean acoustics. A PESOGEN-II system and supporting software were purchased from Daubin Systems Corporation. (Approximately $7000 of APL matching funds were added to the ONR grant.) The system has been received and is mounted on a cart for portability. The system has been used for approximately two months to support the M.S. research project of LCDR Roger Rose, a student in the UW physics Department. Current plans are for the system to be utilized in a course entitled Ocean Acoustic Tomography to be taught in Winter 1992 by Dr. Bruce Howe.
