Development of the Damage Control Systems Assist Tool

Abstract

The paperless ship concept first proposed by VADM Metcalf has been advocated at the highest levels in the Navy. ARGOS is a prototype multi-media database interface system under development at the Naval Postgraduate School in support of this advanced concept. This thesis has implemented a shipboard systems evaluation and assistance tool called Systems Assist Module (SAM). SAM Automates many of the evaluation and information retrieval processes that a Damage Control Assistant is required to perform during normal and emergency conditions. It demonstrated the superior capabilities attainable in a system implemented with economical, off-the-shelf technology.
