Calibrated Radiometer for Background Scanning - CARABAS.

Abstract

Thermal characteristics of targets and backgrounds determine Infra red detectability of the targets. Therefore not only knowledge of the thermal behavior of targets is needed, but also of background elements like trees and grass. Long term measurements are necessary to study time variations of apparent temperatures, covering all weather conditions. For this reason a dual wave band scanner is developed for autonomous radiation measurements in the spectral regions 3-5 microns and 8-12 microns. This report describes system design and performance.
