An Object-Oriented Approach to Computer Architecture Simulation

Abstract

An object-oriented approach to modeling and simulating computer architectures is presented. This approach yields a 'generic' class hierarchy that supports the simulation of basic computer microarchitecture components found in most computers. This is accomplished by concentrating on the more generic concepts of processors, memories, register, etc., rather than concentrating on a specific system. This 'generic' class hierarchy is tested by developing microarchitecture simulators for two different microarchitecture designs.
