Proceedings of a Hydrology and Hydraulics Workshop on Riverine Levee Freeboard Held in Monticello, Minnesota on 27-29 August 1991

Abstract

The major objectives of the workshop were to (1) identify issues related to present procedures for determining riverine levee project height, including freeboard, (2) discuss alternative procedures for determining levee height, and (3) establish a direction for implementing new policy and procedures for determining levee height that would eliminate the concept of freeboard, and incorporate risk and uncertainty in the analysis. Freeboard overtopping and safety for levees with low levels of protection; Floodplain encroachment and its effects on levee overtopping design; Effect of channel erosion on freeboard at Houston, Minnesota; Hydraulic uncertainties in water surface calculations.
