Building Human Variables into Combat Models. Volume 2
Abstract
This report presents a conceptual framework designed to represent human factors in combat models. The framework is organized to focus on small teams of 'executing elements,' the baseline performance of those teams in delivering their increment of combat power, and changes in performance associated with stress recovery processes. The framework served as a starting point for research carried out at the National Training Center that investigated the impact of fatigue on combat performance. With respect to this goal, the results were largely inconclusive. However, the results did support a series of hypotheses that focused on the performance of command control executing elements and the high dependency between this performance and combat outcomes.
