Laser Diode End-Pumped Nd:YAG Laser.
Abstract
100 Hz operation of a Nd:YAG laser longitudinally pumped by a 1 W peak power quasi-cw laser diode was investigated theoretically and experimentally. An optical-to-optical slope efficiency of 33%, indicating a wall-plug efficiency of 7%, was exhibited, but the threshold optical power of 330 mW was high due to poor antireflection coatings on the laser rod giving a round-trip intracavity loss of 3.1 %. The 1.064 micro output was observed to be diffraction-limited. The theoretical modelling of the laser's input/ output characteristics agreed well with the experimentally obtained results.
