Independent Research and Independent Exploratory Development FY91 Annual Report

Abstract

This report documents 6.1 and 6.2 research efforts conducted at the Navy Personnel Research and Development Center under the Independent Research/ Independent Exploratory Development (IR/IED) program. The FY91 IR program includes the following project articles: The Role of Feedback in Computer-based Training; Exploratory Examination of Artificial Neural Networks as an Alternative to Linear Regression; Artificial Neural Networks and Training; A comparison of Artificial Neural Networks and Linear Regression; Using Neural Networks to Predict Behavior from Psychological Data; and Experimentally-based Learning of Multiple Roles. Progress reports on IED projects include: A Large- scale Model to Maximize Navy Unit Personnel Readiness; Effects of Administration Method and Anonymity/Identification on Survey Responses; An Examination of Cognitive and Motivational Effects of Employee Interventions; and Transitioning Research Knowledge into Practice. The Technical Director encourages scientists and engineers at the Navy Personnel Research and Development Center (NPRDC) to generate new and innovative proposals to promote scientific and technological growth in the organization and the development of knowledge and technology of interest to the Navy.
