Research and Development of the p-version of the Finite Element Model.

Abstract

A new iteration, based on a textured model decomposition, is used to solve the assembled system of equations in the p-version of the finite element method for two-dimensional problems. Based on the hierarchic property of shape functions on a rectangle, a superelement consisting of four adjacent rectangles is constructed, and then partitioned into three blocks. The iteration is used to implement the p-version in parallel on an N-cube. Load balance and speed-up ratios are investigated. A new approach for analyzing fastened structural connections based on the p-version is studied. This approach takes nonlinearities into account. Model predictions are found to be in good agreement with experimental results reported.
