Processing of YBa(2)Cu(3)O(x) Ceramic Materials: Effect of Additives

Abstract

The effect of the addition of Al2O3, TiO2, PbO and Ag2O, in the concentration range 0 - 30 wt.%, on crystal structure, morphology and superconductivity of YBa2CU306+x was investigated. The results suggest that the addition of either Al2O3, TiO2 or PbO tend to stabilize the non superconducting tetragonal phase at the expense of superconducting orthorhombic phase. The oxygen from YBa2CU306+X tends to migrate towards the additive and this process degrades the superconducting property of YBa2CU3O6+x and increases the resistance. The addition of silver oxide, although it does not affect the particle size of YBa2CU3O6+xl it improves the electrical properties of the composite.
