Integrated Information Support System (IISS). Volume 8. User Interface Subsystem. Part 11. Virtual Terminal Development Specification

Abstract

This specification establishes the performance, development, test, and qualification requirements of the Virtual Terminal protocol and the computer programs implementing it (the Virtual Terminal software). The Virtual Terminal is one configuration item of the Integrated Information Support System User Interface. One of the objectives of the Integrated Information Support System is to allow applications to be run from a wide variety of terminals. Instead of having to worry about device specific commands to perform a specific function on a particular type of terminal, an application instead uses the Virtual Terminal protocol. The Virtual Terminal protocol is defined in terms of the set of functions which it can perform, the set of attributes that it supports, and the commands for invoking these functions.
