Model A: High-Temperature Tribometer

Abstract

A high temperature tribometer has been specifically designed and fabricated to accurately measure, in real time, friction and wear characteristics of materials at temperatures up to 1000 degC in a controlled atmosphere. The instrument is capable of three-axis motion control, automated sample load, automated powder and liquid lubrication feed, and computer control of instrument and data acquisition. The tribometer can be run as a stand-alone using the front panels of the tribometer electronic control box or it can be run using the computer. Computer set points can be used as a safety device in case the set parameters go out of bounds.
