Develoment and Evaluation of Immunomodulators of Hemopoietic and Immunologic Mechanisms.

Abstract

We carried out work on the regulation IgE production in humans by lymphokines. The work has been very successful and has been received enthusiastically by the scientific community. IgE is a very important immunoglobulin since it is the only one involved in the defence against helminthic infections. Furthermore, IgE is involved in all allergic reactions. IgE has been recently shown to participate in the defence against viral infections. Our work has focused on the characterization of basic mechanisms which are involved in the regulation of the production of IgE by human B cells. Identification of substances able to up- or -down regulate IgE production may allow the planning of proper clinical trials in the future.
