Software System Safety Guide

Abstract

This report provides guidance on the implementation of a Software System Safety Program for Mission Critical Defense Systems. It discusses how to get a Software Safety program started, development of a Software Safety Program Plan, the Software Hazards Assessment Process, Software Safety Analyses, and General Guidelines, for designing Safety Critical Software. A useful glossary of definitions, terms, and acronyms is included, as well as a Software Safety Checklist (Appendix A). This technical report is the first in a series of reports that will be written in order to provide Safety and Software Engineers better guidance on the implementation of a Software System Safety Program.
